Girls on the Run Receives Grant
The Greater Boise Rotary Foundation recently awarded one of their large grants to the non-profit Girls on the Run. GBRF is a proud supporter of the impactful and important work that GotR is doing for dozens of your girls in the Treasure Valley. Toni Ramey met the GBRF team at Monroe Elementary to receive the check and she describes the program as follows.
Girls on the Run Treasure Valley is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to creating a world where every girl knows and activates her limitless potential and is free to boldly pursue her dreams. At Girls on the Run, we inspire girls to recognize their inner strength and celebrate what makes them one of a kind.
While Girls on the Run (GOTR) uses physical activity (running/jogging/walking and other fun forms of movement) in our programs, we aren’t a traditional “sport” or athletic program. Our programs use running and other physical activities as a platform for teaching important life skills and promoting holistic health outcomes for girls. At GOTR, it’s not about competition … it’s about inclusivity, setting individual goals and working to achieve them, and becoming more joyful, healthy, and confident.
How is the GBRF grant being used? GBRF funding will help us expand a small pilot of Camp GOTR that we ran for the first time last summer to 4 locations throughout the Treasure Valley, and will provide financial assistance funding to ensure that no girl is turned away because of financial means. We expect to have 100 girls participate this summer, and we are committed to ensuring that any girl who wishes to participate can by providing need-based financial assistance to families. 50% of our participants receive need-based scholarships! Each day, these girls will have the opportunity to play large and small group games, reflect on their own growth, engage their creative side and connect with their peers. Games and activities include large and small group games, workshops in which girls build and do arts and crafts, and tag variations that combine learning and moving. Thank you for giving them this opportunity!
